If Slough hadn't have been in this book Tao would not have had enough food for himself or the Valley People. Tao would've also never met Ram a wolf dog if Slough wasn't in the book. But the most important event in Slough would be Graybeard and Tao meeting, because that's the event that makes the book Boy of the Painted so interesting.
